Study Designs: The Snapshot Studies

Part 1 of 8 in my attempt to introduce you to all the different types of study designs out there.

Before we get started, did you notice that Substack now lets you check and see if this is written by AI? I get it. Some of you are worried that AI is replacing me. Trust me, there is no replacing me. Many have tried, judging by the number of plagiarized posts I’ve found with my words on them. But I will be honest that some of what I write has been written and/or edited by AI. After all, it would take me a long time to write out all that code and verify it. I mean, I could do it, but it would just take too long.

As for the actual blog posts… It’s more complicated. English is my second language, and I still think (and dream!) in Spanish. So I’m kind of auto-translating what I write in real time from how I am thinking it in my head in Spanish. You can see some of that in my writing, especially around syntax in more non-formal posts. (And when I am sleep-deprived.)

Anyway, I’d take the AI detection tool with a grain of salt. It’s not perfect, and it is known to be biased against people whose first language is not English. Why? I don’t know. But it’s a thing.

So, with that out of the way, let’s get started with today’s lesson on surveys.
